Now it gets dark

Our bottom-fermented Burggraf owes its sombre appearance to the especially intensive colouring provided by the malt that is used.

Dark beers dominated the beer landscape in Germany up to the 19th century, and likewise in our Upper Franconian Schönbrunn as well. Here is remains up to the present day a constituent part of our very much alive beer culture thanks to its intense flavour and its tart sweetness. By the way, our black beer also enjoys enormous popularity today in the cooking world. When all is said and done, a Franconian Krustenschweinebraten (roast pork with crackling) succeeds best when it is given a generous helping of our dark Burggraf beer.
